What Is Kreocode? A Multidisciplinary Coding Event
Kreocode is an annual multidisciplinary coding event designed for students and educators alike. Organized by the RÉCIT, a Québec network focused on developing student competency through meaningful technology integration, Kreocode brings together coding, creativity and curriculum‑connected challenges.
The name “Kreocode” blends Kreo, meaning creation in Esperanto, with code, a term from computer programming — highlighting its focus on creative coding experiences.
This event offers:
- Professional learning and coding training for teachers.
- Stimulating challenges tailored to diverse age groups and learning levels.
New Challenges Are Online for 2026
The Kreocode 2026 challenges are officially available online. Classes can now explore a suite of coding tasks designed for various developmental levels — from preschool through adult education — and using platforms such as Scratch and ScratchJr.
This year, the themes are drawn from two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Each theme includes four levels of challenge:
- ScratchJr Beginner (Preschool and Elementary)
- ScratchJr Advanced (Preschool and Elementary)
- Scratch Beginner (Elementary, Secondary, Adult General Education – AGE)
- Scratch Advanced (Elementary, Secondary, AGE)
In total, that’s eight distinct challenges, each with turnkey resources including teacher’s guides, presentations, and student booklets, all designed to scaffold creativity and computational thinking.
Students are invited to imagine sustainable futures, invent solutions to real-world problems, and code projects that reflect their ideas and values.
Timeline to know:
- January 14, 2026: Launch and presentation of challenges.
- April 26, 2026: Deadline for project submissions via teachers, parents or guardians.
- May 2026: Highlighting inspiring projects and award of certificates.
Each classroom can submit up to five projects, and selected inspiring works may be showcased on the Kreocode site and social channels.
Who Can Participate — and How It Works
Kreocode is open to:
- Preschool, elementary, and secondary students
- Students in adult and vocational education
- Homeschooled learners in Québec
Educators or guardians act as official submitters, ensuring student privacy and copyright standards are respected. Projects must be coded using Scratch or ScratchJr only, and submitted in English, French, or both. No external hardware or robotics are allowed.
Why Kreocode Matters for Schools
Kreocode isn’t just about learning to code — it’s about using technology as a tool for expression, problem‑solving and real‑world action. By framing coding challenges around global and community themes, the event encourages learners to think creatively while building digital fluency.
For many educators, this kind of project‑based engagement supports curriculum goals, fosters collaboration and gives students an authentic reason to code.
Get Started Today
If you’re a teacher, parent or homeschooling facilitator, explore the challenges now and bring coding to life in your classroom: students can start building, iterating and inspiring others with their digital creations.
